The Hobbit Given Green Light

New Zealand's tourism trade has been given a boost after it was confirmed that two films based on JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit will be made in the country. Production was given teh nod of approval after lenghty talks between Hollywood executives and the New Zealand government. New Zealand witnessed a tourism boom as a result of The Lord of the Rings trilogy being shot in the country.

 

The critically acclaimed films platformed New Zealand's idyllic scenery internationally. According to official figures, the Rings trilogy helped New Zealnd Tourism increase it's earnings by 201 million dollars in the December quarter of 2004; with fly drive New Zealand holidays growing in popularity. The entire New Zealand economy is likley to be boosted from the prequels. When ating Unions threatened to boycott the film in a row over wages Warner Bros and New Line had considered taking the production elsewhere. However, a marketing deal agreed between the government and Warner Bros rescued the situation.Delays in the production of The Hobbit will hit theatres in two installments in December 2012 and 2013. New Zealander Jackson shot the three films in a number of locations around New Zealand. Jackson also directed the Rings Trilogy and now pick up the reins once again for The Hobbit will hit theatres in two instalments in December 2012 and 2013. For Jackson it was a logical decision. while New Zealand was the perfect backdrop as Jackson's Middle Earth; while New Zealand's backdrop was the ideal choice as Jackson's Middle Earth.

The volcanic region of Mount Ruapehu became the fiery Mount Doom while the rolling hills of Matamato were transformed into Hobbiton and have now become popular as escorted tours New Zealand. New Zealand's adventure capital, Queenstown, was the setting for numerous scenes, such as the Pillars of Argonath and the Ergion Hills. Coupled with the Rugby World Cup 2011, The Hobbit is expected to reignite interest in New Zealand holidays.
